Sheeps Winbolo Wishlist

Just wanted to put down in pixels my list of features -- priortized. Created October 20,2003, Updated March 31, 2004.

Took many of these ideas from wbn forum posts, especially this one started by UD.

Fixes & Changes
  • Prevent speed bug cheat. - Included in 1.14.
  • Fix lgm-radar error - if far enough away from landed lgm, your radar points into mine field (maybe radar sees map as sphere?).
  • Enemy boats don't temporarly disappear when shot at sea.
  • Ignore pending messages option (ignore alliance spam, base trade spam, etc).
  • Fix of pill/tank being "physically solid around the edges" (as documented by Kax).
  • Have landed lgm able to move to edge of blocks that it lands on (similar to bolo - and makes logical sense)
  • Player-locked icon next to Player name.
  • Ignore player option.
  • Increase tree growth rate to match bolo (wbn post).
  • Pill firing range to match bolo (move in 1 square) by Oscar.
  • Fix case of messages to match bolo by Oscar.
  • Additions
  • Message-hotkeys to assign a key (F1 etc) to a customizable text to allies/near/all players (borg option in short-term).
  • Ignore player option (possible if player list is moved onto game window from menu).
  • Ability to set mouse buttons/wheel in keys (Underdog's suggestion to use for gun sight), could be borg.
  • Shareware paid icon in wbn (may be hard to see how few pay but encouraging payment is a good thing).
  • Player-is-quitting text before quit message, to distinqish net splits ("fi is quitting. fi has quit") - Included in 1.14.
  • Ability to highlight/select player names/full addresses from player menu, so they can be copied to other applications.
  • Have player list show up on right side of game window (avoid using drop-down menu) (seen in screenshot somewhere).
  • Server additions:
  • Autospawn map option.
  • Random-map option from text map file.
  • Restart-on-win option (same map).
  • Quit-on-leave option if 1 pill/base has been taken and all players leave game.
  • Admin-password option and admin-listening-port option for: Lock, Unlock, Quit & Message-to-players - used remotely.
  • Kicking and baning of players/ports remotly.
  • Client skins:
  • Changing message-bar repositioning and seperation from map window.
  • Changing and repositing client modules (message bar, lgm function buttons, map, health).
  • Client port to Mac OSX.
  • Winbolo.net features
  • Game locked shows on wbn. - Included in 1.14 (wbn).
  • Assign a number to each non-wbn player to assist with log viewing.
  • Add top recent games to player profile page.
  • Add game summaries to WBN games showing teams, winners, summary (Fermat has a good example).
  • Add to WBN events the pill and base number (i.e. Player x just captured neutral base 4).
  • Borg features
  • Custom pre-set message keys (i.e. F1 sends "lock the game!" to all players).
  • Map overview (like Namik).
  • Messages summary (like Namik).
  • Ability to set mouse button/wheel in keys (see above).
  • Filtering of network messages (so that they can be disabled in clinet but summarized in borg message window - to remove repeat or certain types of messages).
  • Tracking of which players have locked (and sets all players locked when client locked).
  • Wacky ideas
  • SVG Winbolo! (Scalable Vector Graphics using XML) - no more 2x and 4x only! (and yes it's only for the web, but lets think outside the box)
  • Server modules/expansion packs - ability to customize various elements for special mod games (and shown as such on tracker/wbn).
  • Examples: crazy-fast tree growth; mine-less; always-angry pills; ice terran; speed bolo. (and yes, there will always be "classic" bolo for those who don't want to see changes).
